I Hiked 35 Hours to Find the Man Who Disappeared Into This Canyon

  Hello everyone! Thank you so much for the interest in the Beekeeper&apos;s story! It&apos;s one of my favorites and I&apos;m happy it&apos;s resonating.<br><br>I saw a few common questions, so I thought I&apos;d answer them here!<br><br>1) Cameras - I started with 4 cameras (2 drones, 2 handheld). I have one drone (a Skydio) where I don&apos;t have to hold the controller when it&apos;s going, so it&apos;s better for when I am doing something (rappelling, dirt biking, etc). That is the one that was lost when rappelling. I don&apos;t have that footage. I have a second drone (DJI) that uses a controller but is better for landscapes. That one survived, and is how I have the landscape shots. I also had a GoPro - which I lost. And a handheld DJI Osmo, which shorted out in the water. But luckily the two cameras that remained gave me enough footage!<br><br>2) Ropes - when rappelling, I was looping the rope around an anchor (tree, bush, stack of rocks), then rappelling on both sides of the rope.   My dad and I met Marion Howard while on the &quot;miner trail&quot; about 1972. You might remember my Dads first degree was in mining and we lost track of how many mines we visited up and down 395 (including Cerro Gordo). That miners trail was simply drawn on our Topo map by a guy in Lone Pine. The bee keeper had a pack bigger than yours or ours and he was moving slow. We stayed together at the fist cabin you stopped at on the west side. While he and my dad talked mining constantly Marion lead us &nbsp;over and around McElvoy Canyon on &quot;sheep&quot; trails to get to his main cabin above the Saline Valley side. His main cabin was totally fine - full roof, stove and bunks. We spent the third night with him and in the morning he took ME to check out his bee hives. My dad and I visited a few mines in the area for another few days and walked out to a car that was waiting down in the valley - my dad knew how to plan one way backpacking trips. &nbsp;My dad did talk to me about people with mental problems and maybe Marvin had some. But Marion was a very kind old man as I remember. Thank you for completing his story for me, just wish my dad was around to see this!

  I don&apos;t think the beekeeper was crazy or mentally unwell. Living out in that environment all alone and not going insane is a testament to his mental fortitude and strength of will.

  Dear Brent, &nbsp;I’ve hiked extensively throughout the Sierras, undertaken solo wilderness adventures, and read extensively about the mountain men and explorers of California. I don’t think people fully realize how daunting and courageous it is for you to hike that route alone as you did.   Brent, 40 years ago, I hiked the Pacific Crest from Mexico to Canada, with the majority of the trek being off-trail. &nbsp;I was not looking for validation, a challenge, or alienation from society. &nbsp;I was looking for TRUTH. &nbsp;Can&apos;t explain it in much more detail than that. &nbsp;I found that the constant struggle and desolation was brutally honest and revealing, in stark contrast to mankind and our society. &nbsp;We often assume that people who flee society are running FROM something, but in actuality, many of us are running TO something, and looking for something greater than ourselves. &nbsp;It&apos;s a spiritual thing I suppose. After my trek, I returned to college, started a business, raised a family, and overall had a fulfilling life in the SF bay area. &nbsp;But the &quot;call of the wild&quot; never stopped ringing in my ears. &nbsp;I&apos;m pushing 70 now and nobody has time to listen to my tales. &nbsp;But, I have to keep remembering that my years of unbridled freedom (despite the dangers and struggles), were among the most cherished days of my life. &nbsp;I met my Maker one night while camped on a 14,000&apos; summit where I damned near froze to death under a ceiling of stars and galaxies. &nbsp;It was at that time that I realized how fragile life is, and how truly small mankind is compared to the universe around him. &nbsp;I wish more young people could break free from their tech bubbles, tear off their meaningless societal labels, and truly become one with the natural world around them. &nbsp;I applaud you for following such a wonderful spirit of adventure and taking the paths less traveled. &nbsp;Every step you take is a resurrection of history that would otherwise be forgotten. &nbsp;Keep up the great work! &nbsp;Us old guys are with you every step of the way in spirit! &nbsp;Best Wishes, Rob

  Brent, I love your content and adventures. I am a Old Fire keeper of the Great Smoky mountains of NC. I keep one of many flames of the Cherokee fires that made the trail of tears , The fire was returned home to a eternal flame in Cherokee &nbsp;N.C. but the west area you andare in really excites me. A old silver smith &nbsp;gold smith I have survived 3 strokes and brain surgery my hiking and exploring have decreased greatly, I am blessed to have spent much time with my Cherokee neighbors. I&apos;m sorry to ramble but I&apos;m here but not all the way there 😂 , Thank you for taking us along your journeys I have shared you with lots of stroke and brain injury survivors ,Who love your channel. I will close with a prayer for you 🙏 I will build a fire that is special for you and your family and friends I trust the fire to bring you safety and awesome days ahead.
