The thing I love about this movie is how the stakes are so low, just learning to speak without stuttering, and yet so high because of who he is & what's going on in the world. It definitely deserved those Academy Awards & all the other awards it got that year.

The Queen Mother (wife of King George VI) was asked if a movie could be made and she said yes but not while she was still alive. She said the memories were too painful. This movie was made after she passed.

“Kilt” is what happened to the last person who called a kilt a skirt.  😂😂😂😂

At the end when you were happy they remained friends....  I remember a story when this came out, the producers (directors, writer et al) were doing research, and chatted with one of Lionel's sons, to get insight to him, how to portray him.  He dug out correspondence his dad received from King Edward.  The letters really showed the depth and longevity of their friendship.  It was such a treasure trove that helped them craft their partnership on screen.  Heard Queen Elizabeth appreciated this movie, as she felt they captured the loving and wonderful person her father was.  Movie deserved its Oscar wins.

The speech at the end gives me chills every time. Mainly because Colin Firth sounds so identical to the king and also the meaning behind that speech is so chilling.

My favorite part of this movie is when his daughters ask him to tell them a story and he tells them the story about a penguin that turned into an albatross with wings big enough to hug both his daughters who were princessess. Knowing how much King George loved his family, that always makes my heart warm.

Gosh when he comes home as King and looks at Elizabeth.   It's very brief but the sorrow in his eyes knowing her childhood kind of ended right there

"I had to throw in a few, so they knew it was me." - That got me the most.

To clarify about his brother "Johnny" being kept away, it wasn't to abuse him. He had epilepsy that was worsened by the stresses that day-to-day royal life demanded, so being at a small estate with his beloved nanny and occasional visits from the rest of the family was the best thing for his health while also being conveniently easy for the royal family to cover up the extent of his illness.

Wondered when some reactor would stumble across this excellent movie.<br>My mother was amongst those who listened to the original radio broadcast and recalled how nervous everyone felt beforehand.

I saw this film in a theater. I knew it was based on facts, and it still blew me away. I am constantly asking people if they have seen this and I am always surprised when I am told they haven&apos;t even heard of this movie. It is a great bromance with some incerdible humor.
