The extension was ingenius! I often watch Jim Sprague, in Canada. He almost never leaves bark, because it comes off in the epoxy. This was a nice departure. Very pretty and natural. I'm certainly glad you kept the bark.

I always wanted a bowl made from a burl. Never got one yet. My aunt was going to make me one. But never did. Hers. She left most of the out side wood. Covered it in some kind of risen. Had molds to put them in. They were beautiful. She use to sale them she even carved ducks & swans. So very beautiful.

Just love the show of art you created. Watched the video 3 -4 times jut o I could catch all the beautiful color change create a new view from each angle.

Long sleeve shirts and a spinning lathe can be a dangerous proposition. But, of course, you already know that. If not, you will learn the hard way. Fortunately, skin has a habit of growing back. Nice burl.

I could see that the gouge was trying to dig in deeper and almost causing a catch because the bevel was not against the bowl. You would get better cuts if you rode the bevel against the bowl. This is where the angle of grind comes into play. If you put a 50-degree bevel on your gouge you could get the bevel to ride against the bowl without having to tip your gouge back so far.
