  You can never tell the internal dynamics of a marriage on the basis of outward appearances.  Just because a couple stays together doesn't necessarily mean they're *happy*: it could be only a façade.

  Betrayal is a symptom. What is happening in the person who betrays? How does he/she justify going against what he/she vows not to? What is his/her sense of self-trust? Does he/she trust themselves to care fundamentally for his/her own emotions, pain, addictions? What is the level of self-abandonment and how does she/he justify it? It seems like Paul and Joanne dug deeply ... in this adventure of relating, living and understanding. It's not just a finger wagging moral judgement against affairs, it's a profound observation of what it is to be human and try to love well.

  i had a beer w paul in 1973? when he started racing & had to qualify ,, the only track for production cars at that time was in nelson ledges.. he was parked next to me..i told him his differential needed work..he thought i was nuts.. 40 yrs later my bro was his neighbor,, they knew each other in shaker heights,,, wow,,
