30 days in rehab doesn't work. Four months there is a possibility of sobriety. To stay sober takes daily maintenance and Alcoholics Anonymous. It's a brutal sneaky addiction that can be overcome by hanging out with like-minded people. I haven't had a drink in 11 years. I remain vigilant daily. I am living a beautiful life. So very grateful.😊

As the '60's wore on, Judy Garland's various issues as laid out led to her actually being banned from several variety shows, including Jackie Gleason, Red Skelton, Dean Martin, Danny Kaye, the Smothers Brothers, Carol Burnett and Jonathan Winters. It worsened after a 1966 incident during the taping of her second and final "Hollywood Palace" appearance, where at one point she trashed and wrecked the dressing room of the ABC Palace (formerly El Capitan) Theatre, causing flooding. But it wasn't just with variety shows: ever notice that on "The Lucy Show," I don't remember seeing any episode entitled "Lucy Meets Judy Garland."

As for Martin, his drinking in the period documented was largely schtick. It didn't become real until after the death of his son, Dean Paul Martin, in 1987 in a crash following a training flight. And Gleason, while his fame was largely from television - and working primarily in New York and, later, Miami Beach - also drank to excess, often affecting his performances and even straining some of his relationships. One book on Tallulah Bankhead also mentioned that Gleason banned her, too, from his show (this, while she did appear on the Skelton and Smothers' shows).
