SAAB is like that person in your company that had excellent experience, ideas and was able to solve problems. But, didn't get on with senior management and got screwed over, until they were fired, or resigned out of frustration.

Every now and then I see one of these "new" 9-5s and they still look bloody excellent!

I think the true crime with regard to Saab is the fact that General Motors seem to have the attitude that if they can’t have it and make it work, nobody can

I’ve owned all sorts of Saabs for 42 years. They were/are all outstanding - dependable, fun, practical and unique. I will never be without one.

My father was a designer for Saab in Trollhatten back in the late sixties, great company, great workforce, scared of innovation (his words), still, I love a Saab all these years later warts and all

Seriously ahead of its time. The beautiful LED headlights, with the clean DRL (not seen at that time) and the rear lightbar (which all cars after 2020 have). It looks like it could have been sold in the last few years.

According to the responding paramedics/EMTs, my uncle's Saab 900 Turbo unequivocally saved his life in the late 1980s, after a 50-60mph head-on collision with a 7.5t cargo truck (a combined speed of over 100mph). Head on, with a vehicle 5 times heavier than the average car of the period. He should've died that night but — thank the Creator — he didn't. We got 25 more years with uncle Pete. For that, I'll be forever grateful to Saab.

The fidelity and longevity of the (proto) infotainment screen on both late 90s and early 2000s Saab's I've owned? (Or lack thereof, to be more accurate.) Well, on that front, nahhhh, not so good. ;) It's a trade-off I'd make every time, though.

RIP Unc. RIP Saab.

Back in the early 2010’s I remember going to a Saab dealer with my dad to test drive the new 9-5 which for a young enthusiast at the time having grown up with Saabs was very exciting to have launch an all new car.

Unfortunately at the time the 9-5 2.8T Aero was commanding a lot of money and currently having the 9-3 convertible with the same engine, it was getting costly to run.

My dad ended up with a 2011 Mercedes E class convertible 3.0 CDI which was a lovely car but wasn’t as comfortable or didn’t feel as quick as the Saab. The Saab had something that made the Mercedes just feel cold.

Moving on 14 years later and I have my own 9-3 convertible and there is a certain way a Saab makes you feel that no other car make can match.

There's still worldwide enthusiasm for SAAB!
Over 700 attendees and 350 cars at the 2025 SCNA owner's convention in NJ can't all be wrong!

GM told SAAB to take an Opel and make a Volvo out of it by changing its bumpers. Understandably, SAAB thought that was a joke, and actually made a good car. GM couldn't comprehend what SAAB was on about because GM makes Cadillacs out of the same plastics they used to put in Cavaliers. And all of a sudden GM had a brand that they thought was crazy.

Now of course there were other problems, but how well is Cadillac doing, or how well is GM doing in Europe? Exactly.
