What’s your take on home batteries? Are they becoming a no-brainer, or do the numbers still not add up for you?

We are lucky in South Africa that we can charge Batteries with Solar in the winter . most days are 20*c in the winter and I only use the main grid on raining days.

Solar and batteries on your own home rather than on a national grid is the only way you'll ever save money.
A battery on a split tariff is great in winter and if we have summers like this one more often it's a no brainier. From April to August my highest monthly electricity usage not including standing charge was £6.70.
My house requires roughly 14kwh from the solar to fully charge the 10.4 kw battery and run the house over a 24 hour period. In the deep winter production goes down to sometimes 500w of production a day. Thats where a split tariff is essential.

Netzero estimated me 9.7kwh today but generated 22kwh delighted, winters not here yet.

Since my export tariff is higher than my off peak I never use solar to charge my battery. When the inevitable reduction in export tariff comes I will have to change my strategy.

I tripled my battery’s storage to buy as much at 7p overnight. This combined with exporting as much as possible in the summer months. Also battery storage increased to cover any changes to export tariffs so I can export most energy at peak rates.

even if you don't save a lot of money, you're stabilizing the grid with these batteries. Making it better for everyone.

With my experience last year with our ASHP the battery made a massive difference, this tied into our EV and Octopus tariffs was a game changer. With the expected jumps in energy cost coming we are doubling our storage. We thing break even point is about 3-4 years.

I have just had a 9.04kW Sigenergy in an outhouse loft. It's attached to the double brick wall, but I've realised there isn't room for the next module for V2H charging when I change my car.

It would be interesting to see a presentation on extending an existing setup where there is limited space and if there is away to link modules from an internal space to adjacent internally, or the V2H externally without taking out the new system that was only installed last month, but the installer obviously didn't include my future planning...grhhh

I'd love to see real cases where someone with solar panels use electric vehicle as a home battery i.e. V2H or V2G. So bidirectional inverters are essential but you don't need to buy separate battery for the house. Subscribed.
