For those who are fans of mythology, there's a book called Battle of Quentim Quantum that's super cool. In it, a group of adventurers travels through different mythologies, interacting with gods like Jupiter, Zeus, Thor, Odin, and others, as well as mythological beasts. I loved that book because I love mythology.

I'm watching Record Of Ragnarok and the battle is currently between Leonidas and the god Apollo. Nice to know a bit more about the spartan.

To add a couple of interesting notions historically debated:

-Leonidas was never supposed to rule, which is why Leonidas recieved a much more extense military training than his brothers, he received a ton of education alongside his fellow men in arms rather than the individualistic education of royalty, which made him liked on the population because he was a soldier first, a royal second, so people truly believed he not only understood the populus but also he was extremely well-versed on military decisions.

-We actually know VERY LITTLE about Spartan culture that doesn't come from Athenian and Thebians historians, meaning what little we know must always be taken with an extreme grain of salt because it was, mostly, propaganda since those were rival city-states. What we do know, however, was a culture deeply rooted to their culture, universal training for military action from a very young age, and, most curiously, a very strong presence of women in positions of political power since the men were often more busy because their military training took longer... which rarely happened in ancient Greece. Also they practiced Laconicism, the philosophical and linguistic tradition of talking as little as possible to communicate as much as possible.

-Despite most representations, Leonidas was around 59-60 when he went to Thermopylae. Which is kinda cooler than a 30-ish something year old, since this man wasn't even in his prime and yet fought in the frontlines.

-There were a few of the Spartans that marched towards Thermopylae that were sent back. Three, to be exact: A messenger that was supposed to return but when he did it was too late and hung himself in shame, and then we have Eurytus and Aristodemus, who contracted an eye desease and were sent back, while walking back, Eurytus had a change of heart and returned to Thermopylae to die with the rest, while Aristodemus, weakened by the desease, returned to Sparta where he was shamed and shunned as a coward. Later, Aristodemus reclaimed his Spartan status and honor by fighting and dying in Platea, where he was described to fight relentlessly and bravely!

The Persians must have done their homework on the Spartans. Launching their invasions both on Marathon and Thermopylae during the sacred festival of Carneia, knowing the Spartans can't commit their whole army during that period.
