The markup on Rolex is crazy-unethical. I'm after a Rolex Datejust 41. The secondary market is selling it for $18K when it's worth $11,850. I'm also considering a Submariner. The after market sells for $17,000, when it retails for $11,350. What a scam. And once you own one, you won't be able to sell these even at it's scam markup.

On the GMT2 BLRO Pepsi, you only mention later it was already up 85%. So -2% makes 83%. The CPO prices I checked for a 2022 or newer, it was $35K, well over 100% over retail for full set, unpolished. Not sure thats a “crash”. CPO prices I have checked on for “in demand” watches are higher then gray market; so Rolex is really setting the high secondary mkt price point.

Rolex is good in terms of quality and brand recognition if you are looking for a watch to wear. As for investment, a watch is never meant for this purpose. Only buy it when you like it. What I can say is that if you intend to buy a watch with a substantial amount of money and hoping there is still some residual value after years of owning it then Rolex could be the brand for you.
