America vs Germany Football Fan Chants (American Reaction)

The difference between Germany (or Europe in total) and USA starts with the attitude to sport events. Americans go to a match to be chilled and entertained.. they want to CONSUME rather invest energy. Many of the german clubs are more than 100 years old. The loyalty to a specific club is passed from generation to generation. There is much more sense of loyalty, unity and regional pride than in the US. With the downside that germans are taking football much to serious. We frequently have violent outbursts and matches guarded by hundreds of fully armored police men.

The small fan section you're talking about at 14:00 is the away end which is sold out I think at that match. It's Mainz 05 away at Hoffenheim, which would be about 100km distance

As a Mainz Fan I am proud to see my club 2 Times.
First, “the small section” was the fan block in a game on the road. The clip afterwards, was the home stadium.

 14:04
It's an away game I should guess, so it's the away section.

14:00 In germany you have home and away areas. Away team get 10%. So from a stadium with 20.000 people they get 2K tickets (they can try to buy home tickets, thats how some fans are sometimes nearly 50% Away Fans.

Think in America the fan culture needs time to grow. In Germany we grow up with this game played it in school, in the afternoon with friends and in the evening in club training. The rules are easy, you need only a ball and some guys and you can play erverywhere. In every little village or small town is a 80, 90, 100 year old football club where generations of young guys learn to play, to be part of a team ... What you see in the vid is only a small part of the football culture.

 here are the translations:
1. Bayern München: "European Cup", which is a pretty common chant in Germany as a "filler", on the banner its written "European Cup Champion"
2. Hertha BSC: "Oh Hertha BSC, the champion from the "Spree"", "Spree" being the river that flows through Berlin
3. Karslruher SC: " Section "Stadium ban", I am here again, in my territory, was never really gone, ive been in the bar, i smell the smoke, and take a deep breath, and then im sure, to be in the stadium again; oh oh oh...", "section ..." is a common (ultra-)group name, and nearlyevery club has a "section Stadium ban", which members are just ultras that were banned from stadiums for aný ammount of time, Karlsruhe made a whole song to honor the guys who are still supporting even though they were leagally excluded for such a long time and are still there to support their club
4. Dynamo Dresden: "Dy Dy Dy Dy Dy, Na Na Na Na Na, Mo Mo Mo Mo Mo, Forza Dynamo!", "forza" being italian for "lets go"
5. Borussia Dortmund: " and when you win the game, are on the top, we are here to sing "Borussia, Borussia BVB", and when you loose the game, are at rock bottom, we are here and sing "Borussia, Borussia BVB",whatever may happen, we stand by you, till death and sing for you, for you "Borussia, Borussia BVB"", "BVB" being the abbreviation for Borussia Dortmund
6. FC Schalke 04: "Hey Schalke is the power, we are getting the championship, piece of a cake, we all stand to the club from "the territory ("dem Revier"), so you come too, to "S04"", "das Revier" is a rather big area in Germany
7. FC Schalke 04: "You know the myth of "Schalker Markt", the story that began there? "FC Schalke" became a legend, a love that will never end!", "Schalker Markt" being the address where "Schalke 04" was founded back in 1904
8. Hertha BSC: As long as we are standing together on the stands ("in der Kurve"), singing the songs, flags are flying, so long the old Lady ("Die alte Dame") we wont be destroyed, because we are standing by her!", "in der Kurve" translates to "in the curve" and they are singing this because the ultras are located in the "curved stand" behinde one goal, this is so common, that "Kurve" became a synonym for the place where the home team Ultras are standing, "Die alte Dame" or old Lady is the nickname for the club because "Hertha" is also a common female first name, typically old Ladys are named that way
9. I dont know the team or what they did say, but this is the away end, you compared it to fan sections in america, but these were only the away fans supporting their team
10. Mainz 05: "first round Chisinau, second round Bern, then we drive to Belgrad and beat Red Star, a win at the Bosporus, a win at the Prater, after that we party a week at the Theater!", the are singing about their European Cup Journey!
At the end i want to say something about the american Ultras: chants like "fight and win", "come on ..." or just "ole, ole" are also pretty common in Germany, so its not about their chants or how passionate they are, but just that they are not such a big mass like in Germany. We shouldnt laugh about the few guy who really want to support their team, but encourage the other people on the stand who do nothing!
I hope I could help a little with my translation!
