Griffs Magic Theatre - 2nd September 2026

Some weeks Griff’s Magic Theatre gently guides you through a carefully chosen musical landscape. This is not one of those weeks. We begin in relatively civilised company with The Kinks and Donovan, then somebody appears to leave the psychedelic cupboard unlocked and things start getting peculiar. Dantalian’s Chariot are pursued across a field by a madman, Donovan acquires Cosmic Wheels, Randy California brings the Rain, Kaleidoscope turn up twice, Kak introduce us to the Lemonaide Kid, and The Dukes of Stratosphear peer at the whole mess through a Collideascope. Then, because apparently we haven’t wandered far enough from the path, the Dead Kennedys arrive with **California Über Alles**, Curved Air give Vivaldi a thorough seeing-to, and Sandy Denny pauses proceedings long enough to ask the perfectly reasonable question, Who Knows Where the Time Goes? Nobody does, Sandy. Especially not round here. There’s also Larry Williams, Johnny Watson, more Kaleidoscope, another visit from Randy California, and finally The Kinks return to close the doors with I’m Not Like Everybody Else. Which, after listening to this programme, feels less like a song title and more like Griff’s personal mission statement. So put the kettle on, hide anything breakable, and join us for another excursion into the slightly dusty, occasionally psychedelic and wonderfully unpredictable corners of Griff’s record collection.
