Something to add onto this is that Artorias actually creates black abyssal water/sludge. He might be the first sign of the deep’s corruption.

You just made me realize that when you unseal new Londo all the humanity in trapped in the water gets washed down into the valley of the drakes. Then sinks .... lower. Perhaps into the remains of the abyss? Did your character in Dark souls 1 "Reignite" the abyss and cause the deep to form with all that watery humanity?

You’ve blown my mind, once again.

And while this isn’t relevant to the video, the nature of humanity and water makes me finally appreciate the ringed city.

I always hated how limited the map was, but now it makes so much sense.

I always thought The Mausoleum Lookout was a weird name for the first bonfire, but with your revelation, it puts the pieces together for me.

The Ringed City was designed to contain the Pygmies and the Dark Soul, so of course there would be echelons of gods in the society to keep them in line.

The Pygmy Lords were likely similar to the Four Kings. Puppets sitting on thrones that held no actual power.

The Ringed City isn’t sinking into another abyssal swamp. It’s a graveyard so overfilled that the wayward humanity is flowing up out of it and has started consuming everything.

That’s why the Locusts are there to eat.

That’s why the only Ringed Knights left are all around it.

Thats why there are so many clerics around it.

That’s why Midir is nearby.

And of course we wouldn’t be sent to the main portions of the Ringed City.
The Bat Wing Demons serve the gods, and we’re human.

They take us to the graveyard so that we can die there.

That’s why the playable area is so far from the rest of the city. So that when humanity begins to fully overflow, it’s isolated away from everything else.

Why else would there be a purging monument there? It’s not a benevolent gesture, it’s damage control.

That’s why Argo is so pissed that we’re in the church. We weren’t supposed to make it this far.

“Foolishness. The king’s decree is no trifling matter”

The king. Gwynn. His decree was to entrap and quell humanity to negate the threat they posed.

So the City became a concentration camp of sorts.

12:29 I’ve always loved this line read—the incredulous tone of “and they made him a lord of cinder,” followed by the complete lack of a pause before “not for virtue.”

I love the idea that this is why we can never swim under any circumstance
Even in the shallowest of pools, if it's even a bit above waist level, we die

I always thought it was because our armor and weapons made us too heavy to swim, but maybe instead of "dying" in the conventional sense, we're imprisoned, with no way to free ourselves, as we sink to the bottom

In Dark Souls 2, the area that ended up becoming the Undead Crypt was also originally called a submerged castle, confirmed by file names and by cut NPC dialogue.
So all 3 Dark Souls games would've had flooded areas relating to corpses and humanity.

People overlook the fact that the Deacons, the Fire Witches and the Jailer Handmaids specifically use Flame Sorcery which is a lost art of Izalith.

Don't recall where or when I heard it, but there was once someone who proposed that the whole purpose of New Londo was collecting Humanity to feed the flames and continue the Age of Fire. The problem wasn't that Darkwraiths were cutting down every hollow they saw, it was that they, at some point, stopped feeding it to the first flame or the humanity itself became insufficient, and it was preventing anyone with potential from 'completing their quest'. So they sealed it off, knowing that the 'Chosen Undead' would eventually need the Lord Soul Fragment held by the Four Kings and whatever humanity was gathered there.

11:50 I'm getting Ungoliant vibes. In the Silmarillion she was so gluttonous that even after devouring the light of the two trees she eventually consumed herself.
