When I was younger I caught two metang thinking I had to get them both leveled up to get a single metagross, specifically because I had read the lore.

Around the time Sun/Moon released i think some official source said Alolan Exeggutor was the original form and the one we knew from Kanto is the variant

13:52 I've always seen trade-evolutions as being a Pokémon learning different skills from multiple teachers, and that they do the same in the wild by learning from different elder members of their tribes.

But your explanation is much better ❤

Not my theory by theory by LoreKeeperToby in his recent video about lore accurate evolutions we don't have. He says that since Togepi's aren't naturally found in the wild, only as egg that sometimes seemingly appear out on nowhere during times of happiness, and somewhere it states Celebi brings eggs through time. So what if Celebi is bringing Togepi eggs from the future or past from times that are happier, bestowing on trainers they know will love and cherish them in hopes that the Togepi's get to evolve into Togetic's and Togekiss's that bring happiness and good fortune into our times. These could be talking about the 'Togepi Paradise' Krillik talks about around 29:50
