Suede scuffed very easily; stepping on them was a no-no. (Others have noted that they were expensive.)

No matter what decade / 50's 60's or 70's Elvis was special. Never will be another; there hasn't been yet, and he's been gone since 1977.

In 1968 Elvis was 33 and had come into his own. He had confidence and swagger. The 1956 wasn't really representative of the 21-year-old Elvis, that was a Paramount screen test for a supporting role in The Rainmaker.

Young Elvis was a Hollywood screen test to see how he came across on film.

Johnny Cash was serving in the Air force and one of his comrades used to boast about gettting rid of his boots and replacing them with blue suede shoes. When he started at Sun records he convinced Carl Perkins to write the song. Carl sold 1m copies then had a serious car crash which gave Elvis his first tv spot. Elvis then recorded the song to help Carl pay his bills.

Elvis first started touring in 1954 across the South and was gaining momentum. He performed on some TV shows and his career exploded.

That first clip was his screen test for when he started making movies. No strings on the guitar and miming.

You have to go back. Elvis was always fabulous even in his younger days 💙

He moved around a lot less in 1968 than he did in 1956. Back in ‘56 he was known as “Elvis the Pelvis”.
