Yonhwa) 연화산 (Lotus Flower Mountain) Height: 2,355 m / 7,726 ft The eleventh-highest mountain on the Korean Peninsula Yonhwasan is a very high and rugged mountain (2,355 m above sea level) located at the junction of Nangnim County (Chagang Province) and Jangjin and Bujeon Counties (South Hamgyong Province) in North Korea. Geographical Location and Environment Location: Border area of Nangnim County (Chagang Province) and Jangjin/Bujeon Counties (South Hamgyong Province); approximately 15 km east of Lake Jangjin. Surrounding Terrain: It is surrounded by layers of high mountains reaching around 2,000 meters, including Hisaebong (1,891 m) to the northeast, Soyonhwasan (2,319 m) to the northwest, and Mulmangbong (2,059 m) to the southeast. Climate: Due to the high elevation, the mountain remains snow-covered until May. Namuwiki A mountain spanning Nangnim County (Chagang Province) and the Buk-myeon, Sangnam-myeon, and Dongha-myeon areas of Jangjin County (South Hamgyong Province)—areas that now constitute Jangjin and Bujeon Counties. Height: 2,355 m. Although it is the *tenth-highest mountain in the country, it does not appear particularly prominent because it is situated to the north of the Bujeon Plateau. It is located 15 km east of Lake Jangjin No. 2. Peaks such as Hisaebong (1,891 m) to the northeast, Soyonhwasan (2,319 m) to the northwest, and Mulmangbong (2,059 m) to the southeast rise around it. While the mountain is covered in a lush mixed forest of broad-leaved and coniferous trees over a base of granite and granite gneiss, the summit features a scrubby growth of weeds, junipers, and kudzu. It remains snow-capped until May. The northern slope is steep and rugged, whereas the southern slope—though relatively gentler—connects to Seopyeongsan (1,750 m) and Dongdeuksan (1,672 m), creating a landscape of deep, overlapping mountain ranges. The Bujeon-gang River flows 10 km to the east, while the Jangjin-gang River flows to the west and north. The vertical distribution of vegetation is distinct: broad-leaved forests—including oak, linden, Erman's birch, maple, aspen, and white birch—grow below 1,300 meters, while subarctic coniferous forests—such as Korean fir, spruce, larch, and fir—are found between 1,300 and 2,000 meters. Above 2,000 meters, creeping arborvitae and creeping stone pine grow. It is a major timber-producing area for South Hamgyong and Chagang Provinces.
