  In the late 1960s I, a teenager, visited my divorced mother in Las Vegas and she took me to a show in which Gisele MacKenzie was the headliner.

  jack Paar, Dick Cavett, johnny Carson...and the 50&apos;s &amp; early 60&apos;s great comedians as ack Benny, ackie Gleason, Red Skelton...others! <br>Oh, what we had back then. It is very, very fine to get many of them now though, because of the tech advances. Paar is one of the best entertainers ever, Dick Cavett was almost another Paar, his brilliance, humor, knowledge, etc.

  You can see how Johnny took a few cues from Jack. The level of creative wit in the comedy of those days was superlative. Makes me wish I was young again. &quot;Aye, there&apos;s the rub!&quot; Today&apos;s late night is substandard.

  This was a weekly prime-time show Jack Paar did after he left &quot;The Tonight Show&quot;.<br><br>When Paar left &quot;Tonight&quot;, he was still &nbsp;under contract to NBC until 1965, so to fulfill the contract, he did this show until the expiration of his contract in 1965.<br><br>The two best known episodes of his prime-time show both aired in January, 1964.<br><br>One of them featured the first interview of Bobby Kennedy after the assassination of his brother.<br><br>The second featured a videotape of a Beatles appearance on British TV that had been taped a few weeks earlier. That tape aired about three weeks before their live American TV debut on Ed Sullivan.

  I miss that era of sophistication. I saw Cary Grant in Nashville about 1982. It was an ethereal experience. He had no script. He simply told stories with that famous voice of his and then took about an hour&apos;s worth of questions!! We all felt like we were in a Cary Grant movie. It was fabulous.
