  My club just signed a Sri Lanka international… and we’re in the 6th tier of English football. Which probably says something both about the level of competition for places in the Sri Lankan side, but also about the depth of the English pyramid and number of opportunities to get paid to play and develop as a footballer in this country. (In fact someone who played at this World Cup made a few appearances for us in 2019, which makes the case even more for the benefits of such a deep pyramid)

  I feel like the biggest factor is the fall off of South America, because outside of Argentina, the rest of South America is worse than it has ever been

  You’re failing to acknowledge that the Alfie Potts People’s Republic of Columbesia (the 2028 merger state between Columbia and Indonesia) will win all World Cups until it’s eventual collapse in the 2100s where the HITC Republic of Veneppines (the merging of Venezuela and Philippines) will take over the dominant mantle.
