This video was a lot of work so it would mean a lot if you subscribed :) Also, you can you my discord: https://discord.gg/MCb3dGjgkx
Something I have been seeing a lot of people suggest is making seasons an option when creating a world or make it a togglable feature. I don't think that's a solution because it would still be an absurd amount of work to properly add seasons and I can't see all that work being worth it for an optional world setting.

The level of ancient spaghetti code fuckery required to add functioning seasons in modern minecraft in vanilla would rival the Apollo program.

A lot of the seasons visual changes could just be done via textures, meaning the chunks wouldn't need to update, it would directly show in the player view. Same for different types of rain.

They probably won't ever add seasons, but I'd LOVE to see them spruce up the weather. Make the rain in Bedrock actually sound nice, add more water patterns like fog, light rain, heavy rain, hail, sandstorms, wind(could make foliage interact with it), stuff like that. I've been wanting more varied weather for a long time, the rain we have has gotten very stale.

Yes I totally agree. I’ve thought about Minecraft seasons ever since I read a book that had a Minecraft world start to change (Minecraft the mountain). As cool as seasons sounds, if you really thing about how it would effect stuff it would only be cool for terrain you don’t use and would just be annoying for anything player-made.

I think mushroom islands not having seasons is kinda funny, I like it, the weird funky magic mushroom land doesn’t abide by your weather rules! Also the pale garden just changing in temperature feels fitting, just the magical corruption of the pale just resist everything including deciduousness (it rains so it’d still snow, just the pale moss and trees are unaffected), also it is firmly in the autumn season- well, Halloween anyway

I used to play with a mod that added seasons, and I LOVED what it did to my base and the areas I was in most of the time. It was super fun to play with. But whenever I went adventuring say during winter, snow would show up, cool, very fun. Then I'd go down that same route in summer, and the snow would still be there. If I wanted it to melt away again, to fit summer, I'd have to hang around that area for a while, which was no fun.

Seasons in Minecraft are a LOVELY idea, but in practice the way they have to work means the seasons get all out of whack depending on where you are and how long you spend there

What I've realized playing Vintage Story, is that it needed seasons added fairly early on. It isn't just a technical thing, but design too. The game was built around seasons. They're a core part of the progression. You prepare your first year for winter, and then every subsequent year of gameplay, you settle into patterns of when to complete certain tasks.

Those later winters make you feel really capable. You once huddled in the cold, now you have a robust home that provides ample warmth and supplies. The seasons changing also provides just a sense of the world changing, adding to this feeling of progress. The world does not sit still.

Minecraft is much less interested in imitating real nature, and is more of a sandbox where you build whatever you find interesting. Without the intense survival challenges, winter simply becomes a time where build looks weird covered in snow, and it's a bit harder to get food.

I love and appreciate both games, but yeah, I don't think seasons work with Minecraft, at least not in vanilla.

I never really though about how seasons could ruin a bunch of stuff, I do like the way Minecraft handles "seasons" being just making biomes for each season that stay that way permanently. Its really cool how you can also put the poplar and cherry leaves in any biome and they retain their color, I do think they should update snowy biomes to have permanent snowy white leaves.

it would be cool if seasons were just an optional shader pack that changed the color of foliage, but ATP people who really care about seasons can just use a data pack

I love Vintage Story, but it's really funny to walk 10 minutes in one direction and find ice and snow starting to melt nearing the end of Summer, from who knows how many Winters ago that I was over there.

I just wished they expanded the farming/crop system. Some mods like farmer's delight do a great job at incentivizing the player to work with crops. The food system as a whole feels kinda lackluster
