San Francisco's Chinatown has had a violent history dating back to the 1800s and early 1900s when there would be 100s of rival tongs killing each other in the streets using martial arts weapons, it didn't only start in the 1960s.

Your detail, let me feel I'm present at that era, I was still in Hong Kong when my uncle "George Yun" RIP was killed, at least "The Joe Boys" gave him a good burial in Colma.<br>After my family immigrated to the States, my Mom was able to locate him, we visit his grave every year with my 93 yrs old Mom.

I was attending Galileo 77-79, and I remember many of the characters depicted here. Most only showed up once in a while. One of the shooters was in my metal shop class, and was actually a very guy in class. I was shocked to learn about his part in the massacre. Back then both gangs wore distinctive apparel so it was easy to know who was with whom. Ah, the memories 😊

'Uncle' Peter Chong was my neighbor in the SF Sunset district. He carried himself like a standard middle class Chinese, drove a used Toyota etc. I was shocked when I saw the charges against him which included pretty much everything. I met Shrimp Boy twice, once at a party and once at a dinner. He was really quiet but carried himself thoughtfully and with confidence, his story is crazy. Leland Yee was once my district supervisor and had done a great job establishing himself as a power at the California legislature, quickly moving up the ranks. Just before the arms scandal went down I saw him coming out of a hardcore Irish bar in my neighborhood, it stood out in my mind. What's a Chinese guy doing in there? I'm pretty sure the answer was Coke and that that had an effect on Leland's judgement and apparent corruption.
