  This guy suffered an abduction. He was basically kidnapped by tyrant's and tortured as if he were a prisoner of war. Just awful,  it would take some kind of disgusting crime to deserve this treatment 😞

  In 2022 I was drinking in Amazing Bar, Street 136, Phnom Penh, when the manager, a Korean guy, said to me that he didn't like a joke I made and that a policeman friend of his was coming to arrest me.  I asked him what the joke was, as perhaps there was a cultural misunderstanding, but he would not say what the joke was, only saying that I was soon to be arrested and "now you will suffer".  I paid $150 to be released from the bar, but the fact that he wouldn't tell me what the supposed 'joke' was tells me that it was a scam to extort money form me.  I thought things were fine there, but it's not until something like that happens do you realize how little rights you have and how quickly things can go bad.  Just to add, I've done lots of traveling to over 50 countries and this is the only time have had any real bother.  If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.

  As an Australian of Cambodian descent, I have to say what a disgrace of a country to throw someone in Prison for a broken ATM for nine months. Absolutely shameful backward country to treat anyone like that !!!

  Never accept an open drink or food from someone you don’t know and don’t absolutely trust, and never leave a drink or food unattended anywhere.

  A few years ago, a friend and I visited a town called Sihanoukville away from Phnom Pen where we rented a couple of scooters to get around.<br>One night when I decided to have a quiet night away from the bars, my friend decided he would go alone.<br>On the way to his destination, 2 Cambodian guys drew up alongside him and snatched the keys from the ignition of the motorbike he was riding.<br>Of course the bike stopped and the 2 Cambodians rode off.<br>Realizing what had happened, he pushed the bike over an embankment so it couldn&apos;t be seen from the road with a view to retrieve it later.<br>However, when we went back, the bike was gone!<br>When we went back to the rental yard to explain what had happened, he was told he had to pay to replace the bike.<br>A few months later I had reason to go back and since I had photos of the 2 bikes we&apos;d rented, out of curiosity mingled with suspicion I re-visited the rental yard and lo and behold, there was the motorbike he&apos;d paid for sitting in the lineup of rentals.

  Rule#1! &nbsp;Never leave your drink unattended anywhere you go. &nbsp;Drink from sealed bottle, or know where your drink came from

  My wife before she met me did mission work in Cambodia and I am so glad she made it out safely. She was there 2 years. My heat breaks for what Ian Muldoon had to endure, but I have nothing but admiration and respect for the strength he has now.
