Look Up! Jesus Is Coming | Greg Laurie

In this engaging and timely message, "Look Up: Jesus is Coming," Pastor Greg Laurie addresses the growing sense of global uncertainty and apocalyptic anxiety in modern culture. Drawing from Luke 21 and the Olivet Discourse, Laurie explains that Bible prophecy is not designed to create fear, but to offer ultimate hope and spiritual readiness. With his signature humor, relatable personal stories, and clear teaching, Laurie breaks down why end-times prophecy matters today, walks through a simplified prophetic timeline, and highlights the central role of Israel in biblical history. Ultimately, the message serves as a passionate wake-up call for believers to break free from spiritual dullness, turn away from daily panic, and live with expectant joy as they watch and pray for the return of Jesus Christ. [00:00 - 01:23] Opening Prayer & Core Theme: The speaker opens with a prayer centered on Revelation 22 ("Even so, Lord Jesus, come"), emphasizing that Bible prophecy is given not to scare believers, but to prepare them for Christ's return. [02:16 - 04:21] Cultural "Doomerism" & End-Times Awareness: Using a story about waiting for "the other shoe to drop," the speaker notes that culture—including non-believers—is consumed with apocalyptic imagery, "doomer fiction," and growing anxiety about the end of the world. [04:21 - 06:48] Jesus' Olivet Discourse (Luke 21): Jesus gave His longest answer to a single question in Luke 21/Matthew 24 regarding the signs of the end. Over 25% of the Bible is prophetic, highlighting why studying eschatology is vital today. [06:48 - 08:39] Reason 1 & 2 to Study Prophecy: Understanding prophecy brings hope in a world filled with "doom scrolling" anxiety (Titus 2:13) and unravels the mystery of history by revealing that good ultimately triumphs in the end. [08:39 - 11:35] Reason 3 & 4 to Study Prophecy: Prophecy gives meaning to human suffering (pointing to Revelation 21:4 and 1 Thessalonians 4) and motivates believers to live holy, godly lives in the present (2 Peter 3:11). [13:26 - 15:12] Prophetic Timeline Overview: The speaker lays out a general end-times sequence: the Rapture of the Church, the emergence of the Antichrist and a 7-year Tribulation period, the Battle of Armageddon, the 1,000-year Millennium, and the New Jerusalem. [15:12 - 18:30] The Antichrist & Tribulation vs. Personal Trials: The Antichrist will initially appear as a magnetic, peacemaking figure. While Christians experience personal tribulation and trials in life, the speaker explains that believers will be raptured before the Great Tribulation. [19:02 - 23:37] Israel as the Prophetic Focal Point: Jerusalem is highlighted as the geographic center of Bible prophecy. The regathering of Israel in 1948 set the prophetic clock ticking, reaffirming that God has not replaced or abandoned the Jewish people. [24:00 - 28:17] God's Sovereignty Over Panic: Pointing to Luke 21:28 ("Look up, for your redemption is drawing near"), believers are encouraged to rest in God's ultimate sovereignty rather than panicking over global chaos or headline news. [28:17 - 36:30] Guarding Against Spiritual Dullness: Jesus warns against allowing the heart to be dulled by carousing, drunkenness, or daily worries. The primary response for a believer is to "watch and pray," staying spiritually alert, living pure lives, and actively sharing the gospel. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Thank you for watching!
