Hi Jay, I just wanted to share this story with you…

I have travelled from Essex to Bristol to decorate my brothers house. One evening after a long day of work we sat down for dinner and I told him about the study that shows that the majority of people when asked, said they would choose an electric shock over 15 minutes alone with their thoughts.

He asked what I’d choose. Sadly, I said I’d take the shock.

I expressed how I spend my days decorating (it’s my profession) and working alone, I listen to youtube and music all day long.

He asked me what I mostly listen to… I said you! Jay Shetty. I told him how inspirational your podcasts have been and how they give me a ray of sunshine at a time that I’m trying to overcome PTSD and mental health struggles

He said,
“Listening to podcasts is great but it’s one of those things you listen to and never really apply to your life.”

He said “you’ll hear something and think- that sounds good, and then you do nothing with it”

I told him that respectfully, I felt he was mistaken here and so he asked me “fine; what have you gained from a podcast and actually applied to your life”

I thought for a moment and he then continued “see?! There’s nothing really that’s changed your life or changed your behaviour if you think about it!”

We changed the topic and moved on…

A couple of days later we sat for dinner again and he told me that his friend was feeling lost in life.
He told me that she was born into a super successful family and Was surrounded by really successful high fliers and although she does well, she doesn’t feel she matches up.
He told me about how her sister was a “f**k up” and immigrated to a beautiful part of the world to work in a bar to which I thought “that’s a dream in my books!”

He recognises success in monetary form. He’s a financial advisor and does well.

So I said … the only way your friend can ever be truly free and genuinely happy is to focus on her own life and stop comparing it to anyone else’s.

She feels she should be more “successful” to match those around her, she should have the big house and fat bank account and the power couple relationship.

But, if she could pick one person she knows and trade lives with them, I bet she’d want her life back within a month!!

Her life is perfect for HER. she doesn’t see the challenges these people face or the choices they have to make, their life wouldn’t work for her otherwise she’d be living it!!

When she realises that her life is perfect for HER, she can really value and appreciate everything in it. She might not have the massive salary, but she also doesn’t have the 100hr work week, the stress, the pressure and the fear of losing it all. She has freedom and time.

She might not have the power couple relationship but she also doesn’t have a cheating partner who’s breaking her heart. What you see on the outside with envy,
You might reject if you actually had it for yourself.

She has everything she needs to be happy, if she could just focus on how her life is perfect for her and nobody else. And anyone else’s life is made for them, and not her. We wouldn’t actually want the things we compare ourselves to. We just don’t realise that because we don’t get the experience to teach it to us.

So anyway….

He looked at me a bit baffled and after a second of silence said “been listening to Jay Shetty?”

He laughed.

I replied, with a mouth full of food 😅 yeh, I suppose it has changed my life after all!

The point of my story, Jay, is that I haven’t put any of the advice or teachings into practice… but it’s changed the way I think. Your podcasts amongst many others, ie Ed mylett, Joe Dispenza, Evy Pompourus etc have encouraged me to grow spiritually and mentally and I gain a whole new perspective on life through your talks.

So thank you! I was a negative miserable pessimist before and now I feel myself becomming enlightened.

Thanks 🙏

Vishen when you said Jay took 2 hours to talk to others and help them i can so testify to this. I came across Jay at my gym in London and Jay was sitting in the cafe with his buddies. I was so in awe and just couldnt stop staring at him as ive been a fan for many years. Jay came over and my friend took pics of us. I was blown away by his humblemess. Its as if he was thanking me for talking to him! I have never come across a celebrity with his down to earth genuine interest in others. I felt a bit of a klutz as i was so star struck i said some daft things but he was so lovely and didnt make me feel stupid. I so treasure that encounter.

Sometimes the most unexpected things end up reaching us in ways we didnt know we needed like a quiet reminder that theres more to explore beneath the surface. I wasnt searching for anything in particular, just going through the motions, feeling a little off, like something inside me was trying to get my attention. When I came across The Law Behind the Laws by Owen Hermsting, I didnt expect much, but it ended up being the gentle nudge I needed to start looking inward again. It helped me notice the patterns Id been blind to, the parts of myself Id been avoiding, and offered a quiet kind of clarity. If youve been feeling a little out of step with yourself too, maybe this will be that same quiet reminder for you.

Life hit me pretty hard. I'm actually coming up with a resource that helped me become the man I am today. I used to live in Miami being around street violence, guns, death, and I even lived in L.A and I used to eat $3 a day, 25 cents noodles, expired toast and canned campbell tomato soup. I survived the Boston Marathon Bombing which was a few feet away where I saw all the blood the people screaming and I was alone at 18. I also used to live in a room with no kitchen, trash bag as a window and bugs crawling on me at night. Bu then I took on boxing to protect myself and learned how to defend myself against bigger threats. I learned to change my whole mindset and to be comfortable in the silent chaos by literally studying my pain. Now I live in a cabin in the north of Sweden where I go down to a lake to breathe and heal my past and I post on Youtube to help others who need it the most 💜🙏🏽 You can visit my channel by clicking on my icon if you want, I would love your feedback
