Flyovers are a symbol of America's power and patriotism. Fans love it, the military loves it and pilots love it. It gives everybody a chance to get behind America.

7:42 is the most famous one, because they chose as a group to fly below the approved limit. The fans LOVED it, the Air Force, not so much.

I've flown in a few fly-by's over the years and have been on the field coordinating the TOT (time over target) on a couple others (Denver Broncos games). The anthem takes approximately 1 minute and 55 seconds though it varies with the performer. There's a team coordinator for all the pregame festivities and they let you know what time the anthem will start (they are on a strict timeline), how long the performer will take (usually known if it's a repeat artist), and you make sure you have a good time hack (gps). Once the anthem starts the planes are out of sight in a holding pattern and 'push" to make it over the stadium based on the 'hack' time. It's easy if everyone does their job on time, but can be a challenge if the performer starts early or late (happens sometimes). The pilots have the ability to 'push it up' (go faster) or throttle back (slower) based on some variables. There are restrictions on the speed and altitude above the ground you can fly, though these rules are sometimes (often) fudged for effect to improve the 'cool' factor. Where I live and flew the pilots would land and make the game by the end of the first quarter. The crowd loves them.

When a fly over occurs it shakes the entire stadium. The sound is all encompassing and it’s the loudest roar you’ll ever hear. Frightening, exciting, and makes us feel patriotic as well as protected!

I sang the national anthem once for a Denver Bronco game

Here's how it works.

A coordinator brings you out for rehearsal long before the game starts and they time how long your rendition of the national anthem takes to sing

They then relay that to the coordinator of the pilots

They then have a designated time for when they want you to start singing the national anthem at the actual game

You go out onto the field, position yourself, they give you a thumbs up, you start singing and it times it just right so that the flyover occurs at the crescendo of the national anthem.

That's how it works.!

The best part is after the air crew lands, they get in a car at the airport that drives them back to the stadium, and then they get to walk out onto the field during a break in the game and the public address announcer tells the crowd that these guys performed the flyover so people stand up and cheer for them

When those fly over, you just don't hear them, you FEEL THEM deep in your chest. It really is an awesome experience.

just for your information, this is actually a military training run. its for pilots to get air time and also make sure they are running on time (getting on target at a specific time), as if a real life mission. WE LOVE THE HELL OUT OF IT AS WELL.

1:12 Flyovers are used as training (mission planning, timing, time over target, etc.) so they're already budgeted for as such. Flyovers are timed based on when the anthem begins and the duration. There's a service member at the stadium coordinating via 2-way radio with the lead pilot. That's how they know when the anthem begins to play. The pilots take off at the proper time and follow a planned route, accounting for way points and time to travel the necessary distance. If everything is planned and executed properly, they fly overhead just as the last note is played.
