This song feels to me like an in-universe theme that people sing about the mythical figure of the main character being used to maintain morale.

If you felt like the song has a different vibe than the rest, you'd be correct.

Just like Ace Combat 5, the main theme of this game have a more "main character" focused centric than the rest of the mainline games. Like in AC 4 and 7 where they're focused more on the "turning the tide of battle" theme, or 6 which is more patriotic and liberating. Zero has a bit of that AC5 feel because it's a direct prequel to it, but not as much and more focused on the atmosphere of the Belkan War.

Now AC5 is not even implicit, their theme REALLY conveys about what Razgriz is. And just like 5, The Wings of Theve also have that same energy. The lyrics even shows that the song directly calls to him with "He" in many parts. And just like Razgriz, The Wings of Theve is really just a legend the FCU military uses as propaganda and to boost morale.

That's why it's genius.

7:10 It makes sense, since the tagline for Ace Combat 8 is "Rise Above"

I really appreciate how technical your breakdown of Ace Combat music is, there's so many interesting composition choices they make for their OSTs and musicians like you help us laymen appreciate them so much more.
