A worthy mention should be how them Beachers fought city hall and stopped the Gardiner from destroying their hood! Hats off!

When i was a little girl , I lived in a house in the beaches area on Victoria Park just up the street from the Harris Filtration plant on Queen St . Next door to us lived 3 elderly ladies who had lived in the house next door to us all their lives . They remembered when the Harris Filtration plant being built back in the 1930s .They told us they use to go to the beach when it was full of rides as little girls and was a funfair . . I remember finding out that it was the 1930s depression that destroyed the funfair down at the beach and it got torn down and streets of houses got built in its place. Thankyou for your wonderful video.

The Harris Filteation plant looks like a beautiful place , somewhere in Europe. It is timeless and beautiful . It was my favourite place to go in the beach area .

I was just there for the Jazz Festival! Wonderful neighbourhood with friendlier than normal people, your mention about the community aspect can certainly be felt.

This is a great video of my community but I have a couple of suggestions. My family has lived in the same home, just north of Kingston Road, since the early 50’s and our view of “The Beach” community, which has several beaches, is somewhat broader than what you’ve covered. I would add the Woodbine Race Track because, while officially outside the Woodbine Ave/Queen Street boundary, it was an important feature of this area for many years. The street names in the housing development that replaced it reflect that history and connection. There was a second amusement park in the Beach - called Scarborough, between the Silverbirch dog park and Kew. Your initial view of the Glen Stewart Ravine starts at Kingston Road but you make no mention of the fact that the neighbourhood and community stretches north of Queen Street. Purists might disagree but they probably spend a lot of time at the BB Canoe Club and are not well known for venturing much further. 😂 Anyway, a significant number of shops and cafes have moved off Queen Street up to Kingston Road and there are shops such as the Kingston Road Flower Market that are worth noting. Finally, while pointing out the large homes and estates in the Glen Manor area is valid, I think it is also important to feature the diversity of housing. The beach has more bungalows, converted cottages and small semis than large estate houses. It was and still is a mix of professionals and working class families, which is probably why places like The Goof and The Fox have survived and thrived. So, as I said, a great video -thanks. Next time just expand your boundaries and you will be much more up to date.
