Yeah, definitely blaming Mace for this. All he had to do was sit Anakin down and explain the situation.

Leave it to Windu to be the epitome of jedi hypocrisy.

Mace: "Anakin is gonna betray me and side with sideous, better play it safe by locking him in a cell, there's no way this would go wrong."

Also Mace: "what the heck, why is Anakin turning to the dark side and siding with Sideous?"

In all seriousness: two things, I don't think mace would be stupid enough to just lock Anakin in a cell and leave it like that, and I don't think Anakin would think to "continue palpatine's plans" since he didn't actually know what palpy was planning.

It would be interesting to see a Light Side ending version to this, where Windu, upon putting Anakin into the prison, Windu tells Anakin that for Anakin's safety, he has to be kept away from the fight to come. Then after the fight, Windu comes back and lets Anakin out, apologising that it had to be that way, before asking why Anakin would side with palpatine, which would be a shock to anakin, and potentially even say that Palpatine promised to save somebody he cared about from death. I can then see Windu telling anakin that the Dark Side merely takes, and telling him that, depending on why this person will die, there are Jedi arts which could save them.

Poor Anakin, the ending was as miserable as it was well written to listen to 😭

A couple of ideas that start where other stories end:
What if Palpatine won and became the immortal emperor of the known universe, but millennia later was so utterly miserable that he time-travelled to sabotage himself?
What if Palpatine lost, but the Republic went bankrupt after the war and the Jedi were forced out?

What if Ahsoka found an abandoned baby in a Coruscant alley and adopted it?

What if Jar Jar never put forward the motion to give Palpatine emergency powers?

Windu made literally everything worse here by acting out of fear, just as Anakin did himself. I kinda hate Windu in this one. He went way too far, never apologized, and got away with stabbing Anakin in the back and pushing him over the edge. He completely and utterly betrayed whatever trust Anakin placed in him, and put him in a position where he had absolutely nothing left to lose. He discovered the truth about Sidious, and that’s how he was repaid? Literally thrown into a jail cell and given some BS excuse that it’s for the greater good. What did Windu think was going to happen?

If Windu truly trusted Anakin, he would’ve been honest with Anakin and told him about the vision of him defeating him and joining Sidious. Perhaps that unexpected transparency and shocking revelation would’ve convinced Anakin to come clean about his visions of Padme dying. If Windu were smart, he’d swallowed his pride for the moment and learn just how deep Sidious’s manipulations went. If Windu and Anakin came to an understanding and decided to trust each other, perhaps with Windu promising to do whatever was necessary to help Padme, Windu would’ve finished off Sidious while Anakin stayed put, choosing to trust Windu in return. Everything could’ve worked out for the better. No Empire, no Vader, no galactic civil war. Perhaps Windu and Anakin could’ve emerged on semi sorta friendly terms.

I still think because of Mace windu's actions the Jedi should have been forced from coruscant or should have been charged with something. Yes, I understand. Palpatine is the sith Lord and he did all that stuff for the war but he literally assassinated basically the president of the Galaxy for the Republic. Yes she can say there is gray area in there somewhere but still

I don’t think Mace Windu would be so foolish as to just lock Anakin in a cell and expect everything to work out. But this scenario does a good job of capturing his role as the embodiment of Jedi hypocrisy.
