That's not even to speak of the Masonic influences. The Salt Lake Temple has masonic handshakes engraved on the outside of the building.

In the 1950's and 60's, Mormons were taught the Urim and Thumim story in primary, at about 5 or 6 years old. Lotsa converts never heard of it.

I'm an ex Mormon. When the Church finally started being honest about Joseph Smith, there was an Ensign article about Joseph's "fight in the woods" with three evil NPC'S popping up behind trees like a video game. Joseph story sounded like something a kid would make up to sound cool. I already had my doubts but stories like this, the hat and finally Egyptian being learned by scholars had me at done.

Joseph's story of attack by thieves sounds like a tall tale told in a bar.

Joseph wore a Jupiter talisman around his neck till the day he died. He truly believed that it gave him the ability to dominate others.

I LIVED THROUGH THESE DECEPTIONS W/MY EX-WIFE WHO WAS FROM A LONG LINE OF INBRED CELTIC MYSTICS (Something pieced together, bit by bit--married 10 years before having enough info to know what I was dealing with--a dark family secret, held very close to their vests despite my ex-father-in-law having trained at a conservative Christian theological seminary. When he knew that I knew, he came to the city where I was living, gun in hand, to kill me. THIS REALM NOT SEEN ABSOLUTELY EXISTS. Without sounding narrow or judgmental, I firmly believe that THOSE DECEIVED, WHO BELIEVE AND PRACTICE, WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO THE HEAVENLY REALMS. Thirty years post divorce and I continue to pray for protection. The harassment never goes away--but I know when it happens--a strange odor in a room or throughout my house or a certain quality of temp/humidity in my environment. Without sounding like a religious nut, whacko or fanatic, I know Jesus is omnipresent--and I have had one such experience within the last 24 hours.

History is rarely as simple as we are taught thank you for presenting another angle and encouraging people to look at the sources.
