  In 1967 I was a white student in pharmacy school at UNC.  My friends and I got a chance to go to Winston Salem twice to see the Rams play.  Actually we went to see Earl.  He was a icon at WSSU.  I saw him do things with a basketball that were impossible.  He would roll the ball down his back and use his butt to bounce a pass to a teammate for a layup.  The basketball they played was fun.  When I was in high school we would go over to Lenoir county and play black teams for practice.  We did that illegally.  We were not supposed to play black schools. The times were different. Some of these black players were my friends.  I felt comfortable around them and that led me to associate with some black friends at UNC. so I felt comfortable at WSSU.  Black culture was then polite and friendly to whites who were respectful to them. My heart goes out to those people who overcame the predigest in the communities to win the hearts of the citizens of North Carolina.  What a year.

  My dad was on that team with Earl the Pearl.. thank you for this . Both my parents and grandmother went to Winston Salem Teachers college !! Thank you❤❤❤

  I remember watching “The Pearl” at the Civic Center in Baltimore. I was also stationed with a fellow sailor who  had played football at Winston Salem and was a friend of the Pearl.

  I idolized Earl the Pearl as a kid; wore his number in high school and loved the way he played the game.

  I watched Earl the pearl come to Philly to play for his team after the first half of a  the pro baker League game and by the end of the game, he scored 40 points to lead his team to victory... Earl the pearl and Oscar Robinson was my favorite players

  Earl was my hero as a kid. Thank you so much for this- the memories are overwhelming. God Bless Earl Monroe, and God Bless all of you for this show. It was breathtaking for an old white man.
