Did Humans Stop Evolving After Civilization? | History for Sleep

Did humans stop evolving after civilization? This sleep history documentary explores human evolution, human origins, and the pressures that still shape us. For millions of years, natural selection shaped the human body through survival, reproduction, climate, food, disease, and migration. But what happened once ancient humans began building farms, permanent settlements, cities, medical systems, and cultures capable of changing the environment faster than genes could change? In this long-form sleep documentary, we explore how human evolution continued after civilization. We look at natural selection, reproductive success, gene–culture coevolution, ancient DNA, starch digestion, lactase persistence, disease pressure, high-altitude adaptation, migration, medicine, and the changing relationship between biology and culture. Agriculture changed what humans ate. Permanent settlements changed exposure to pathogens. Herding created new relationships with animals and milk. Migration moved genetic variants between populations. Medicine and technology weakened some older selective pressures while human culture created entirely new ones. The evidence from ancient DNA and modern genetics suggests that civilization did not stop human evolution. Instead, it changed which pressures mattered, where they acted, and how strongly they influenced different human populations. This quiet journey through human origins and evolutionary history is designed for viewers who enjoy ancient humans, anthropology, natural selection, and relaxing history for sleep.
