“I never wanted to be Anne. I thought there was room for us both.”

Was Marianne right to leave when her portrait was put away? Can someone honour a lost love while fully loving the person beside them?

Tell us which moment stayed with you. 🤍

Yes...it only takes one disrespect to be allowed thereby creating more incidents and greater hurt!!!

Yes. He wasn't doing it for his first wife, he did it for his sister, who didn't even live in the house.

Disgusting behaviour by the Duke - insisting that his current’s wife new portrait be hidden because his sister was visiting.
Sad that his daughter understood her stepmother better than he did and did not resent her.
There is no way that his sister’s feelings should count for more than either his current wife’s or his daughter’s - his priorities were so wrong.
There were so many instances of where his thoughts about his first wife counted without him thinking about Marianne’s opinions, that her only option was to leave him, as he needed the jolt to realise how poorly he had been behaving towards her.
I am surprised she was willing to return as soon as she did.

It must be hard for him to wrestle with all those emotions. I suspect his sister was his elder sister and used to telling him what to do.

How could Anne's daughter be 19 if they were married foe 15 years?

  • @maudemajor2070 · 2 days ago

Definitely she should have left. He needed to snap out of leaving her wants and opinions for last, also he needed to put his sister in her place a bit harder than how he did. But, good story.👍🇺🇸

While it's a good story, I'm not really into stories about widows and widowers. It carries a different kind of complication which is more difficult to navigate as opposed to mistresses.

Deceased spouses are the absolute worst for the next spouse to deal with. They are ghosts that never leave. They remain paragons of virtue regardless of whether they truly were such or not. Never marry a widower/widow unless there has been many years passed between to give time for recovery. Two years was not enough time for Anne's memory to settle. Marianne was right to leave until the Duke made changes.
