If he didn't make fun of you then you were nobody. He roasted his friends the worst (and it was a honor) My favorite story was when he was working in a club owned by the legendary Frank Sinatra he went up to Frank and said "can you come to my table and say hi to my girlfriend? She's a huge fan". "Sure Don no problem" he came to the table and Don said not now Frank I'm busy, like blowing him off in front of his girlfriend to prove he's a big man. Frank had his bouncers carry him out the door in retaliation! Sinatra told this story on Johnny Carson or some such show. They had a lot of fun these guys.

Bob Hope walked in. He was one of the biggest stars of the 20th century, and entertained the troops with other stars from WW2 through the Viet Nam wars. A great American patriot!

The "unknown" at the end is Bob Hope, probably the most well known comic in the 40s-60s. He also starred in the famous road show movies with Bing Crosby. He was THE entertainment director for USO shows for US troops which is the reason behind the war being over joke.

Don Rickles was never malicious. That's why everyone loved to be insulted by him. Inside of 5 minutes everybody is on the floor. I wish this politically incorrect no holds barred humor would return.

He was a genuinely nice guy off stage. He started his schtick when he discovered he could entertain his audience better by playing off of hecklers than telling standard jokes, or so the story goes.

The funny thing is that he was really good friends with Bob Newhart, who has exactly the opposite reputation. In fact, their families used to take vacations together.<br><br>And you're right-Rickles knew them all, and was good friends with most of them.<br><br>The guy who walked in near the end is Bob Hope. The reason for the "the war is over" joke was that Hope was famous for doing tours for American servicemen in war zones.

The man that came in at about <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JvAFEXRoRo&t=914">15:14</a> was Bob Hope. A legendary performer that acted, did standup and entertained the troops. Have a great day to all.
