The British film, "The Day the Earth Caught Fire," released back in 1960, was the movie with the most realistic scenario of how global warming would affect our lives. No spectacular special effects, no giant tsunamis. Just increasing restrictions and worsening weather: A hurricane hits Britain while Australian deserts flood. Temperatures in Texas hit 136 degrees Fahrenheit. Wildfires break out everywhere. Increasing restrictions on water use. In desperation, the government shuts off all private faucets and toilets. Citizens get used to showering in communal bathing stations. Life becomes harder and harder, and ordinary folks just have to tolerate it.

The most scientifically accurate thing all these movies have in common is that they make me feel really old.

One of the most overlooked movies...Moon. Sam Rockwell is always great but exceptional in Moon.

I had a friend I haven't seen for ages try to tell me only last week the "covid is just a cold". He was a little smug, until I mentioned the two of our mutual friends who'd died as a result, and then the other one from our old group who contracted it before the vaccines & is now struggling with Long Covid 6 years later. As detective Josephus Miller said in The Expanse - "The stars are better off without us."

The biggest problem that I have with The Martian is the idea that they would send raw unsterilized potatoes as food.

&quot;Minority Report&quot; is a great story (Philip K. Dick, author).

Gattaca is a brilliant film and its message should not be forgotten - because genetic discrimination is definitely coming.

Jurassic Park had another point in the exchange the Goldblum quote came from: Those animals were driven to extinction by humans, so it makes sense that humans should try to re-establish them, but that dinosaurs had their time (more time than it took humans to evolve post-comet), and nature chose them for extinction.

Such a smart strategy to put &quot;2001...&quot; third and &quot;Arrival&quot; 1st... <br>People will jump right at you.
