I used a slightly faster approach. I drew the same figure at the bottom as well, creating a complete circle arrangement. This results in six small circles distributed in a hexagonal pattern. Since the arrangement is symmetrical, I could even draw a seventh circle in the center; it is immediately apparent that the vertical line passes through the top circle and cuts halfway through the central circle. Given that R = 12, we can see that this vertical line has a length of 3r, meaning r = 4. For the rest, I followed the same calculation method to determine the areas.

Why are you wasting time calculating the Radius of the small circle to the right when it is obvious that each of them needs to have a diameter of 8 in order to fit within the half circle.<br>24/3 = 8 <br>r= D/2 = 4 <br>Area of the 3 small circles = 3*(r*r*Pi)<br>Half circle whole area = (r*r*Pi)/2<br>Shaded Area = half circle area minus 3 small circles area = ((r*r*Pi)/2) - ((r*r*Pi)/2)
