These saws are the reason I left the office and chased life in the woods. No one has them in the UK, and yet I run a 10-10 & 55 every day! All love, buckin

The McCulloch SP125 was certainly one of the hot rods of its day—fast, aggressive, and a great-running big saw. But when you needed to pull a really long bar and get serious work done in big timber, the STIHL 090 was the saw people depended on.

In my neck of the woods, we didn’t see many big Macs. You would hear about one occasionally, but most of the timber fallers were running STIHLs: 090s, 070s, 076s, 075s, 056s, 051s, and 045s. Some were Supers and some were Magnums, although it has been too many years for me to remember every model designation correctly.

Husqvarnas didn’t become popular in our area until sometime in the mid-1980s. By then, I had gotten out of falling timber. I was fortunate never to be seriously hurt, but too many of my friends were getting injured, and I decided I had seen enough. I left the woods and became a winery mechanic, which turned into a 41-year career.

Billy, it would be great to see you bring out an old STIHL once in a while—especially an 090, 070, 075, 076, or 056—assuming you have any hiding in the collection.
Thank you, Robert

I do love that sound. When an old mcculloch sounds fat, but hits that clean torquey sound once cutting.
