Welcome to State of Ruin, where we uncover America’s most disturbing abandoned institutions, one state at a time. From forgotten psychiatric hospitals and crumbling state asylums to abandoned prisons, sanitariums, and institutions that were left behind, every episode explores the places history tried to erase. Our documentaries are built on real historical records, documented locations, true events, and the stories of the people who once lived, worked, and died within these walls. We uncover why these institutions were built, what happened inside them, why they were abandoned, and what remains today. Whether you’re fascinated by abandoned places, forgotten history, urban exploration, or America’s darkest hidden locations, you’re in the right place. New documentaries every week. Subscribe and discover the forgotten side of every state.
