I grew up in a provincial barangay about an hour outside Cebu City, where family life was close enough that four of us once shared one bed. I have watched foreign men settle on our street, join families carefully and sometimes mistake attention, hardship or hospitality for romantic certainty. My mother showed love by asking whether we had eaten. My grandfather brought my grandmother Enriqueta coffee every morning for forty-one years. Those ordinary acts shaped how I write about relationships: watch what a person repeatedly does, ask instead of assuming and leave room for both adults to remain independent. I will not flatter you, and this is not a pickup guide. — Rhea
