He obtained his PhD in 1990 from the Hebrew University. In 1993, he joined the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley. From 2006 to 2018, he was a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research. Yuval has published more than 300 papers with 200 co-authors and has mentored 21 PhD theses (see https://www.genealogy.math.ndsu.nodak.edu/id.php?id=22523.) His research encompasses random walks, Brownian motion, percolation, and random graphs. Dr. Peres is an IMS fellow and a recipient of the Rollo Davidson prize and the Loeve prize. In 2002, he was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing, and in 2016 he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
