The British Ledger

Hello, my name is Duncan Reeve, and I research and narrate the history of British money. The British Ledger is about how the financial systems Britain now takes for granted were actually built: income tax, the Bank of England, mortgages, pensions, the pound itself, etc. None of it was inevitable. Each was invented by particular people, usually in a hurry, usually to pay for a war, and often meant to be temporary. Follow the money far enough back and it always ends in a room, with a decision, and someone who had to pay for it. If that sort of history interests you, do subscribe and join the discussion below.
