I'm sixty-one, born and still living in Lafourche Parish, south Louisiana — cypress house up on piers with brown water on three sides of it. Shrimp boats when I was young, then thirty years building and patching houses in a place that's actively trying to eat them. Down here the heat and the wet never let up.
