I spent twelve years behind the counter at a family gun shop outside Amarillo. Transfers, appraisals, trade-ins. Part of that job was knowing which guns carried the best margin and how to walk a nervous first-time buyer toward them. That's the part nobody tells you about, so I'm telling you. Here I rank models and calibers, go through what's worth buying used, and explain what happens on the other side of the glass when you walk in. Everything gets one test: would I hand it to my own mother, and could she still find ammo for it when the shelves are picked over. Buy once, buy right. I wrote it all down in The Gun Counter Playbook — What I Was Trained to Sell You, and What I'd Actually Buy. 96 methods for getting the right gun the first time. It exists because most people only get one shot at this purchase.
