The Shattered Bastion of Stone For nine days the Bastion burned beneath an ash-choked sky, and for nine nights its defenders fought until the stones ran black with blood. At their heart stood King Blane, last sovereign of the Granite Crown. When the gates splintered and the great hall was breached, his final guard formed a ring about the dais. Shields shattered. Spears snapped. One by one they fell where they stood, bodies heaped at the throne’s steps, guarding their king with their final breath. Blane did not retreat. He mounted the Stone Throne carved from the mountain’s living heart and drove his great sword deep into the granite. “So long as I sit upon this throne, this kingdom has not fallen.” At dawn the enemy found him unmoving—armor split, crown shattered, hands locked upon the hilt. None dared approach. They left the Bastion in ruin. Five centuries have turned to dust. Yet the throne endures— and when the mountain stirs, the king shall rise again.
