The Morality Clause

Every studio contract from 1930 to 1960 carried the same clause. It let the studio end a career over a private life. The Morality Clause is a documentary channel about the men and women of classic Hollywood who lived under it — the arranged marriages, the buried arrest records, the wills that named the wrong person, and the careers that ended over one night in the wrong place. Every episode is built from the public record: probate filings, census records, studio correspondence, newspaper archives and cemetery registries. We name people when the documents support it. We use quotation marks when they don't. And we treat everyone here as a person, not a punchline.
