Founded in 2022, The Chornobyl Family is an independent research and education project by Alex from Ukraine and Michaela from Slovakia, dedicated to the history, technology, and people of Chernobyl. Our work in Chornobyl began long before that. Since 2009, we have made hundreds of field visits to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, worked there as guides and researchers, and contributed to documentaries, exhibitions, museums, and educational projects as experts, consultants, and field specialists. Here we explore the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Pripyat, the RBMK reactor, SKALA computers, Soviet nuclear technology, Duga radar, robotics, archives, abandoned infrastructure, and the lesser-known history of the Exclusion Zone. We also reconstruct lost technology through functional simulators, physical models, and original research. No myths, no sensationalism — just Chernobyl in depth, from people who have spent years studying it on site.
